100% Local & Privacy-First Commitment

VoluTab does NOT collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data, browsing history, or user information. All audio processing, volume calculations, and user preference storage occur 100% locally inside your browser sandbox.

1. Overview & Single Purpose

VoluTab: Per-Tab Volume Control & Booster ("VoluTab", "we", "our") is a browser extension developed with a single, dedicated purpose: to allow users to independently control, mute, and boost (up to 500%) the audio volume of media playing across individual browser tabs.

We believe privacy is a fundamental human right. VoluTab was specifically engineered from the ground up to operate without servers, databases, accounts, or telemetry.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

VoluTab does not collect any data whatsoever. For complete clarity and transparency, we explicitly declare that we do NOT collect, access, or log:

No Personally Identifiable Information (PII): No names, email addresses, phone numbers, IP addresses, or IDs.
No Browsing History or Web Activity: We do not track, log, or transmit the websites you visit or the pages you open.
No Audio or Video Content: We do NOT record, intercept, or listen to your audio or video streams. The Web Audio API operates purely in memory on your local hardware output.
No Health, Financial, or Authentication Data: Zero access to passwords, tokens, cookies, or credentials.
No Analytics or Telemetry: No Google Analytics, no trackers, no pixels, and no external tracking beacons.

3. How Local Storage Works (chrome.storage.local)

VoluTab allows you to save custom volume levels for specific domains (for example, keeping YouTube at 150%).

When the "Remember volume per site" option is enabled:

Preferences are saved strictly onto your personal computer using the Chrome Extension API (chrome.storage.local).
Only the domain name (e.g. youtube.com) and your selected volume number (e.g. 150) are saved.
This data never leaves your device and can be cleared at any time by toggling the option off or uninstalling the extension.

4. Browser Permissions & Justification

In strict compliance with the Google Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, VoluTab requests only the absolute minimum permissions required to perform its single purpose:

tabs Detect Audible Tabs & Tab Mixer

Used exclusively to detect which open tabs are currently playing sound (via the browser's tab.audible property) and display their title and favicon in the popup mixer. This enables you to mute or adjust background tabs without searching for them.

storage Save Local Preferences

Used solely to save your local UI preferences and optional per-domain volume levels locally on your computer via chrome.storage.local.

scripting Audio Engine Attachment

Used to attach the volume controller to media elements in tabs that were already open when the extension is installed or updated, preventing you from having to reload your open tabs.

<all_urls> Host Permission for Media Control

Users play audio and video across millions of websites (YouTube, Twitch, Spotify, podcasts, online courses, news). To boost or adjust sound on any tab you open, the extension must be able to interact with the standard HTML5 <audio> and <video> elements on that page.

5. Remote Code & Third Parties

No Remote Code: VoluTab does not use remote code. All JavaScript, CSS, and HTML files are completely packaged inside the extension file verified by the Chrome Web Store.

No Third-Party Sharing: Because we do not collect any data, we do not and cannot share, transfer, or sell data to third parties, advertising networks, or data brokers.

6. Children's Online Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

VoluTab does not collect any personal data from anyone, including children under the age of 13. It is fully compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in extension features or legal requirements. Any updates will be posted directly to this page with an updated "Effective Date".
